Once you have made the decision to improve your health and have called the practice one of our receptionists will take your details and book you an appointment at a time and date to suit you. She will send you confirmation of your appointment time, and also a short ‘What to expect at your first visit’ which gives you lots of important information about your first visit. We will also ask you to look at our policy on how we store your records and use your personal data.
When you arrive at the practice there is a short form to fill out. Please let us know if you wish to have someone accompany you to your consultation. Once the paperwork is complete your osteopath will take you through into the consulting room, where she will listen to your concerns and ask about your symptoms, your general health, work, hobbies and previous medical problems These questions help her to work out what is causing your symptoms, and decide upon a treatment plan.
Your osteopath will then examine you, assessing how you move your body and looking for areas which may need treatment. You may be asked to undress to your underwear, so wear comfortable underwear or bring pair of shorts with you. Your osteopath will talk through her findings with you, what she feels is causing the problems and then discuss the best treatment options. You will always be asked if you are happy to have treatment before any treatment is given.
Once treatment is completed your osteopath will give you advice on how you might feel after the treatment, and things to do afterwards including stretches or exercises, possible changes to your sitting posture at work etc. A second appointment is usually made so she can assess how you are progressing. If you have any concerns after your treatment you are welcome to call the practice and your osteopath will take the time to talk to you and advise you accordingly.
