At your first consultation the osteopath will take a detailed medical history, asking questions about the problem you have come with and also general health questions. Then they will examine you and ask you to go through movements to assess how well the joints and muscles are moving. You may be asked to remove some clothing so the osteopath can look at you, so we recommend you wear underwear or shorts that you are comfortable in.
Osteopaths treat by using their hands and the type of treatment you receive will depend on your symptoms and your body structure. Treatment often consists of many different techniques including soft tissue massage, joint articulation or manipulation. Your osteopath will often give suggestions and advice to help you at home or at work, and may recommend exercises or lifestyle changes to help your recovery.
